Supporting Families, Strengthening Community: The Story of Société franco-ontarienne de l’autisme

For the Société franco-ontarienne de l’autisme (SFOA), creating a more inclusive community starts with understanding what families need—and making sure they can access that support in French.

Founded in 2002, SFOA is a registered charitable organization dedicated to supporting Francophone autistic individuals and their families across Ontario. Through recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic programs, the organization works to promote inclusion, skill development, independence, and meaningful participation in the community.

But as SFOA has grown, so have the needs behind the scenes.

Building Support in French

SFOA was created in response to a growing need for autism services and support in French. Its founders recognized that Francophone autistic individuals and their families could face barriers when trying to access services in their preferred language.

That need continues to shape the organization today.

SFOA is currently experiencing a period of growth and renewal. Following the successful relaunch of several programs, the organization is continuing to expand its services for autistic children, youth, and families in the Ottawa region.

At the same time, SFOA is strengthening relationships with school boards, community organizations, and professionals to help improve access to French-language autism services and supports.

For an organization doing this kind of work, technology needs to support the mission—not become another challenge to manage.

When Technology Became Part of the Conversation

As SFOA grew, managing its technology became increasingly difficult to handle internally.

The organization needed dependable IT support, secure systems, and practical guidance on technology decisions that made sense for both its operations and its budget.

That was where the relationship with Heartfelt IT began.

Rather than simply looking at individual technical problems, the goal was to have an IT partner who could understand how SFOA operates, listen to its needs, and provide support as the organization continues to grow.

SFOA team members and community leaders gathered at events celebrating the Société franco-ontarienne de l’autisme, with photos of interviews, speakers, and staff alongside the SFOA logo.

A Partnership Built Around Understanding

SFOA describes its experience with Heartfelt IT as excellent.

The team has found Heartfelt IT to be responsive, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. Whether dealing with technical issues, improving systems, or thinking ahead about future technology needs, SFOA has appreciated having a partner it can rely on.

For SFOA, that relationship is about more than fixing technology when something goes wrong.

It is about having someone who understands that every technology decision ultimately supports the organization's larger purpose: helping autistic individuals and families access meaningful programs, services, and community connections.

What SFOA Looks For in an IT Partner

When asked what advice they would give other organizations looking for reliable IT support, SFOA emphasized something that goes beyond technical expertise.

The right partner should take the time to understand an organization's mission, goals, and unique challenges.

Technical knowledge matters, but so do responsiveness, clear communication, and a genuine commitment to helping an organization succeed.

Those are the qualities SFOA has valued throughout its relationship with Heartfelt IT.

Looking Ahead

Today, SFOA is continuing to build on its momentum.

With programs being relaunched and expanded, partnerships growing, and a continued focus on improving access to French-language autism services, the organization is looking toward what comes next.

For SFOA, technology is one part of that journey—but an important one.

With the right support behind the scenes, the organization can spend more time focusing on what matters most: creating opportunities, strengthening families, and building a more inclusive community for Francophone autistic individuals across Ontario.
